A Pearl is a hard, glistening object produced within the soft tissue of a living shelled mollusk or another animal such as fossil conulariids. 

The English word “pearl” derives from the French word ‘perle’ which means leg, after the harm or mutton leg shaped bivalve.

And the Greek has an odd number of beads, that is one more than a multiple of four. [Eg. (4×4)+1, (5×4)+1.]
