What Is The SSC MTS Exam?

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSC MTS exam on a national scale, to find candidates for Group C positions in various departments and offices of the government. These positions are non-gazetted and are not considered ministerial in nature. This exam, like all the other government exams, is highly competitive since the SSC MTS salary is very lucrative and is revised regularly.

Each year, the SSC releases a notification for positions such as Peon, Daftary, Safaiwala, Chowkidar, Havaldar, etc. The MTS or Multi-Tasking Staff Exam is conducted annually and the pattern followed is usually the same. 

The first stage or Paper 1 is an exam that is conducted online. Followed by the PET/PST exam which is conducted to recruit for the post of Havaldar. The last stage of the exam is a descriptive exam. A candidate must qualify for the two main stages of the MTS exam to make it to the final list of shortlisted candidates who will be able to enjoy the perks of the positions and the SSC MTS salary.

SSC MTS Salary

A candidate who has been shortlisted for these positions not only enjoys a hefty salary but also some of the perks associated with the position. The candidates are paid based on Pay Level- 1 and the salary can range anything from Rs.5,200 to 20,200. In addition to this, the grade-based pay of Rs. 1,800 is also added to the remuneration. 

What is the Salary for SSC GD?

SSC GD basic pay keeps varying between INR 21700 to INR 69100. This makes it the most lucrative job role for candidates. There are a lot of scopes to get promoted and fetch a handsome salary. What do you need to know before applying?

When applying for the SSC MTS exam, it is useful to know that if you belong to the SC/PWD/ST/Ex-Servicemen categories, you will be exempt from paying the examination fee. Additionally, women candidates are also exempt from such application fees.

The following is the domicile status required to apply for this exam:

The candidate may be,

  1. A citizen of India
  2. A citizen of Nepal
  3. A Bhutanese native
  4. A refugee from Tibet, residing in India
  5. A person of Indian Nationality from Myanmar, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and other such countries.

The age limitations set by the SSC are as follows:

A person must have attained the age of 18 to be able to write the exam and their age should not exceed 25 years. This age restriction is relaxed for people from reserved categories.

The exam pattern:

The SSC MTS exam is conducted in 2 main stages, i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2. Another special test called the PET (Physical Efficiency Test) or the PST (Physical Standard Test) is conducted for candidates applying for the post of Havaldar. Of the first two exams, Paper 1 is an objective-type exam consisting of multiple-choice questions. Paper 2 is slightly more difficult as it is a descriptive exam and requires creativity in addition to knowledge.

Paper 1 is conducted online and serves as a screening process to weed out the non-serious candidates in the first stage itself. The second exam i.e. Paper 2 involves descriptive answers that can be written in English or any of the languages that have been listed.

Like any competitive exam, the SSC MTS and SSC GD requires diligent and consistent hard work too. The syllabus, however, is not as vast as one would expect and can be prepared with ease.
