If you are planning a visit to San Antonio, you may be looking forward to planning where to stay, where to eat, and what to do. Planning an agenda in such a big, exciting city can be exciting, but it can also be a little daunting if you have a limited amount of time there and want to see the biggest sites in the area.
If you are looking for the must-see sites in San Antonio to add to your visit agenda, consider the following:
The Alamo
The top site to see in San Antonio would definitely be The Alamo. The Alamo is not only a well-known historical site in Texas, but throughout the country. The Alamo was once part of the mission station that was in San Antonio in the 1700s.
The Battle of the Alamo took place in 1836 and is considered one of the most famous battles in United States history. Famous historical figures like Davy Crockett and James Bowie were killed in this battle. Today, The Alamo is a National Monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Admission to The Alamo is free, but you do currently have to make reservations. So be sure you reserve your preferred time slot while you are in San Antonio. If you really want to get into the history of The Alamo, there are guided tours for a fee.
River Walk
While The Alamo may be the top site to see in San Antonio, the San Antonio River Walk is a popular second. The San Antonio River flows through the center of the city, and along the walkway, set down from the street in the shade of trees, is a walkway lined with restaurants.
Take a stroll, do some bird-watching, and grab a bite to eat on the River Walk. For a unique experience, take a guided tour of the River Walk on a barge, or book a reservation on a dinner cruise on the river. Either of these options gives a unique perspective on the River Walk and gives you a relaxing activity to include on your agenda.
San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and Mission Trail
Besides The Alamo, San Antonio is also known for its 4 other missions: Mission San Jose, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. The missions were all built in the early 1700s and named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Mission Trail connects all of the missions. While most tourists choose to drive to each of the missions, you can bike the Mission Trail for some outdoor time on your trip to San Antonio.
If you are dazzled by all of the history and beauty in San Antonio, you may find yourself looking at houses for rent in San Antonio. That way, you can see any of these amazing sites anytime you want.
